“Trust and Obey”

This sermon is not available for “live” viewing on The Church at Sunsites’ Facebook Page, Therefore, a short synopsis is provided below.

There is a well-loved old gospel song that says, “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”

So, what is that song trying to tell us; simply this…God takes the initiative by inviting us to live in a covenant relationship with Him. The first part of that covenant relationship is to trust God and His promises. But there is also another part of living in a covenant relationship with God. Not only are we to trust, but we must also obey, to live in obedience to God’s purpose.

To really live in obedience to God, we must learn to love as God loves. It is a matter of first claiming our freedom by trusting God’s love for us. Trusting God’s loving promise sets us free to do something bigger and better with our lives. Trusting gives us the freedom to obey, obedience increases freedom, and together they lead us into harmony with God. That, and that alone, is what Trust and Obey is all about.
